SPECIALIST ACL REHABILITATION

FROM SURGERY BACK TO PERFORMANCE.

Individual ACL rehabilitation combining progressive strength & conditioning, sports-science principles and objective testing — built around your stage, goals and physical capacity.

ACL REHAB SHOULD PROGRESS WITH YOU — NOT JUST THE CALENDAR.

Time after surgery matters, but rehabilitation should also consider how your knee is responding, how your strength is developing and what physical qualities you need for your goal. The requirements of someone returning to everyday activity are different from those of someone returning to football, rugby, skiing or high-level sport. Our approach progresses rehabilitation according to your individual presentation and appropriate criteria rather than relying on time alone.

THE MY ACL REHAB FRAMEWORK

A CLEAR PATH THROUGH ACL REHABILITATION.

01

RECOVER

Movement, swelling, gait and early function.

02

REBUILD

Quadriceps, hamstring and lower-limb strength.

03

RUN

Prepare for and progressively restore running capacity.

04

JUMP

Develop power, landing ability and reactive strength.

05

PERFORM

Build speed, deceleration, change of direction and sport-specific capacity.

06

TEST

Use objective information to identify deficits and guide progression.

This is a framework, not a rigid timeline. Progression depends on the individual.

WHAT DOES ACL REHAB ACTUALLY INVOLVE?

KNEE FUNCTION

Range of motion, swelling, gait and early control where relevant.

QUADRICEPS STRENGTH

Progressive loading to restore strength and capacity.

HAMSTRING & LOWER-LIMB STRENGTH

Build the wider physical qualities required for progression.

RETURN TO RUNNING

Prepare for and progressively introduce running exposure.

JUMPING & PLYOMETRICS

Develop force production, landing ability and reactive qualities.

SPEED & DECELERATION

Progress towards the demands of faster movement and sport.

CHANGE OF DIRECTION

Reintroduce directional movement when appropriate.

SPORT-SPECIFIC PREPARATION

Prepare for the actual demands of the activity or sport the patient wants to return to.

Elements are selected and progressed according to the individual, not delivered all at once.

REHABILITATION HAS TO BUILD PHYSICAL CAPACITY.

Late-stage ACL rehabilitation increasingly becomes strength & conditioning. The aim is not simply to make the knee feel better. It is to progressively rebuild the strength, power and movement capacity required for the person’s goals.

WE USE TESTING TO HELP GUIDE PROGRESSION.

At appropriate stages, objective testing can help identify strength and performance deficits that are difficult to judge from symptoms or time since surgery alone.

Quadriceps strength · Hamstring strength · Relative strength · Limb symmetry · Jump performance · Reactive strength · Sprint and change-of-direction qualities where appropriate

WHEREVER YOU ARE IN YOUR ACL RECOVERY.

PRE-SURGERY

Preparing physically for reconstruction where appropriate.

EARLY POST-OP

Rebuilding movement, gait and early strength.

MID-STAGE REHAB

Developing meaningful lower-limb strength and capacity.

RETURN TO RUNNING

Preparing for progression into running.

LATE-STAGE REHAB

Jumping, power, speed, deceleration and change of direction.

RETURN TO SPORT

Preparing for the specific physical demands of your sport.

ALREADY HAVING NHS OR PRIVATE REHAB?

You do not necessarily need to replace your existing care. MY ACL Rehab can provide additional specialist input at key stages — including strength progression, late-stage rehabilitation and objective testing. This can be particularly useful when you need more support progressing from basic rehabilitation towards running, training and sport.
