ACL TESTING & RETURN TO SPORT

DON’T GUESS IF YOU’RE READY. TEST IT.

Objective ACL testing to assess relevant strength, power, asymmetry and performance qualities and identify what still needs improving before return to sport.

TIME SINCE SURGERY DOESN’T TELL THE WHOLE STORY.

You may feel good. You may have completed rehabilitation. You may even be back running. But return-to-sport decisions should also consider whether the physical qualities required for your sport have been rebuilt. Testing helps identify what has recovered well, what remains limited and what should be prioritised next.

WHAT DO WE ACTUALLY MEASURE?

Testing is selected according to your stage of rehabilitation, goals and sport.

QUADRICEPS STRENGTH — Assess side-to-side strength and relative strength where appropriate.

HAMSTRING STRENGTH — Assess relevant posterior-chain strength and side-to-side differences.

RELATIVE STRENGTH — Interpret force or torque relative to bodyweight where appropriate.

JUMP PERFORMANCE — Assess bilateral and single-leg power depending on stage and goals.

REACTIVE STRENGTH — Assess the ability to produce and absorb force rapidly.

SPRINT CAPACITY — Assess acceleration/speed qualities where appropriate.

CHANGE OF DIRECTION — Assess higher-level movement and directional performance when relevant.

FATIGUE RESPONSE — Assess how performance changes under repeated or more demanding tasks when appropriate.

FROM TESTING TO A CLEAR NEXT STEP.

01 ASSESS — Understand your surgery, current rehab stage, symptoms and goals.

02 TEST — Select the appropriate strength and performance tests.

03 COMPARE — Review side-to-side differences, relative performance and relevant benchmarks.

04 INTERPRET — Identify the main limitations and priorities.

05 PLAN — Decide what needs to happen next in rehabilitation.

YOUR RESULTS SHOULD BE EASY TO UNDERSTAND.

Where appropriate, you receive a professional report showing your test results, relevant comparisons, key limitations and recommended priorities.

ACL TESTING CAN BE USEFUL IF YOU ARE…

Several months into ACL rehabilitation · Preparing to start running · Already running and progressing towards sport · Approaching return to football, rugby, skiing or another sport · Unsure whether your operated leg is strong enough · Receiving NHS or private rehabilitation but want additional objective testing · Already back in training but still feel uncertain · Looking for an independent late-stage ACL review
